14 days primates & wildlife
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe. Your appointed driver/tour guide will collect you at the airport and take you
to your chosen accommodation.
Day 2: Entebbe > Murchison Falls National Park. Depart Entebbe for Murchison Falls National Park.
Have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you will be able to trek Rhinos on foot. Have lunch and
proceed to Murchison Falls National Park. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park. Drive to the northern bank of the River Nile after breakfast. Your guide will help you spot elephants, lions, cape buffalo, Roth child’s giraffe, hartebeest,
waterbuck, oribi, bushbuck, bohor reedbuck, hyena, and if you are lucky, the leopard.
After lunch, enjoy the boat cruise upstream the calm Victoria Nile to the base of the falls stopping just
few of meters from the ‘Devil’s Cauldron’, marvel at the schools of hippos, crocodiles and over the 17 km
stretch you may see elephant, waterbuck and Uganda Kob. This is also the zone of many birds, species
like the goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant, and the rare
shoebill stork. Later, return to your lodge and relax in the evening. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4: Murchison Falls NP > Kibale National Park. Begin your journey to Kibale Forest National Park. Drive south via Hoima to Fort Portal through verdant countryside passing through traditional homesteads, farms and Tea Estates. You will have a stopover for lunch en route. You will arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon. Check-in at your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Kibale National Park. Today, you will be going on an exhilarating search for the chimp troops of
Kibale, venturing into in the dense tropical forests with the further opportunity of observing a number of
tropical bird species. Kibale National Park is home to the largest concentration of chimpanzees in Africa.
Also found in KNP are 12 other species of primates such as the red colobus monkey, blue monkey, and
the rare L’Hoest’s monkey.
Day 6: Kibale NP > Queen Elizabeth National Park. After breakfast at your lodge, you proceed to Queen
Elizabeth National Park following the mystical Rwenzori Mountain Range. Your driver guide will take you
through the game park where you might spot some animals. Upon arriving at the lodge, you will enjoy a
hot lunch and later in the afternoon take a unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel into Lake
Edward. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of hippos and this launch/cruise
offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. The prolific bird life is
colourful and stupendous, with well over 550 resident species. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park. Queen Elizabeth National Park’s diverse ecosystem of grassy
plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to an incredible abundance of
wildlife. Have an early morning game drive where you have an opportunity to view the massive
Rwenzori as the backdrop, which provides excellent opportunities to spot lions, leopards, giant forest
hog, Cape buffalo, elephant, waterbuck, Uganda Kob, topi and bushbuck. The game drives and the boat
trip (taken prior) are memorable methods of discovering a vast array of Ugandan wildlife. Be sure to
have your camera ready for these amazing sightings! Later transfer to the Ishasha sector home of the
tree-climbing lions. Go on an evening game drive in Ishasha. Return to the lodge for dinner and your
overnight stay.
Day 8: Queen Elizabeth NP > Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After your breakfast, pack up your
bags and take a morning game drive transfer to Bwindi. The drive takes you through the Switzerland of
Africa area known as the Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and winding roads to Bwindi
Impenetrable National Park, arriving in the evening. Check into the lodge for dinner and your overnight
stay.
Day 9: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Embark on your gorilla trekking adventure after an early
breakfast, starting with a briefing at the designated point. Led by experienced gorilla trackers, traverse
the slopes of the volcanoes, beginning from where the gorillas were spotted the previous day. While the
hike may be strenuous, the excitement of the impending experience and the captivating beauty of the
gorilla forest and its inhabitants make it worthwhile. Encountering these gentle apes, a major highlight
of Africa, is a humbling experience. Witness them in their natural habitat, observing their behaviours as
they eat, rest, play, and nurture their young. Follow them through the impenetrable forest, discovering
their stunning surroundings and the diverse species they coexist with. You shall have an hour with the
gorillas before descending back to your lodge. If your trek was short, an optional guided nature walk
around the lodge and nearby communities may be available in the evening. Return to the lodge for
dinner with fellow travelers, preparing for the next day’s safari adventure.
Day 10: Bwindi Impenetrable NP > Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
(MGNP) covers an area of only 33 square kilometres and is the smallest of the ten national parks Uganda
has to offer. The park is situated in southwestern Uganda, on the borders with Rwanda and the DRC, and
was established to protect the famous mountain gorillas. Of the 780 gorillas in the world, more than half
live in the Bwindi Impenetrable NP and the Mgahinga Gorilla NP. The park is also home to the
endangered and rare golden monkeys, which can be found only in this region.
A visit to the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP) also includes the unique cultural experience of the
Batwa Pygmies, with the further opportunity to climb one of the volcanoes of the Virunga Volcanoes
mountain range bordering Rwanda and the DRC. Since the adjacent areas in Rwanda and the DRC are
also national parks, the Parc National des Volcans and Parc National des Virunga the three parks
together form the 434 square kilometers of the Virunga Conservation Area (VCA).
Day 11: Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Today, you venture on a trek into the surreal landscapes of the
Virunga volcanoes to visit the rare golden monkeys.
Day 12: Mgahinga Gorilla NP > Lake Mburo National Park. Time to say goodbye to the mountain
gorillas and the tropical forest of Bwindi. Lake Mburo National Park (LMNP) is the smallest savannah type park in Uganda and is also considered the most family-friendly as it features no big cats, which
allows for walking, horseback, and cycling tours. Lake Mburo NP was originally gazetted in 1933 as a
hunting area, was then upgraded to a game reserve in 1963 and finally declared a national park in 1983.
With a landscape consisting of acacia woodland and savannah, Lake Mburo NP is the only park to
feature both eland and impala antelopes and shares the Burchell’s zebra with the Kidepo Valley NP. The
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) also translocated Rothschild giraffes from the Murchison Falls NP to
complement larger wildlife species such as buffaloes, crocodiles, and hippos, which are mostly seen
around the central lake. In addition, the park also features more than 300 bird species, including the rare
shoebill stork.
Day 13: Lake Mburo National Park > Entebbe. Enjoy another game drive in the morning. Thereafter, it
is time to say goodbye to the Lake Mburo National Park and return to Entebbe the following morning.
Day 14: Departure from Entebbe. Depart Lake Mburo National Park with a short game drive as you exit
the park. Drive to Entebbe if time allows you will make a stop over at Nature’s Green Resort Busabala to
freshen up and use a day room before your departure flight. Or drop off in Entebbe or Kampala at your accommodation.
